President Biden’s $2.3tn infrastructure plan is hugely ambitious in scale and reach, aimed at helping the U.S recover from the pandemic and the infrastructural weaknesses it exposed. The bill also importantly aims to help the world’s largest economy transition to cleaner energy over the next eight years, combat the rise of China and even help fortify America’s cybersecurity defences. The infrastructure spending plan is the first of a two-part proposal to help America’s economy navigate its post-pandemic future.
The encouraging news announced on the 10th June saw senators from both parties reach a deal they hope to sell as a plan that can get through Congress with bipartisan support. The group of ten Democrats and Republicans struck a “realistic, compromise framework to modernize our nation’s infrastructure and energy technologies,” according to a joint statement. While there’s some details to iron out, the White House said it would work with the senators in the coming days on a path forward.
